In case anyone didn't know, i am a self proclaimed PC Gamer. I haven't bought a Console since the Playstation 2. As silly as this is PC Gaming has been constantly be-raided by everyone, time and time again i hear of Console gamers shouting out that PC's shouldn't be supported anymore, make gaming companies put consoles ahead of PC's. And to the companies that stick with PC's, i commend you.
I have always been bothered by the fact that when i walk into Bestbuy, the PC games are hidden in the corner, usually cloaked under the shadow of the giant slab with the glowing Apple Logo. When walking in this time (on the same venture to get Scott Pilgrim) To my surprise the PC games were moved to the same section as the consoles! Joy! What does this mean? honestly probably nothing. for a couple of reasons.
1. The Kinect and Playstation Move booths overshadowed the meekness of the PC games selection. The section only is about one aisle and granted its visibility is far greater to that of the gamer. The gamers are still gonna be drawn to the consoles because of their attraction and size.
2. Contrary to what i said. The PC games aren't near the PC's! Bestbuy is now fueling the PC market with a variety of graphics cards, cases, harddrives, etc, but the people who are going to be interested in getting a PC won't be able be thinking about the games. but at least newer gamers will understand the "4th option" of gaming exists.
My main problem with consoles is more in principle than what they are. On the market there are three consoles that battle constantly over games. The Xbox and Playstation library at this point is so identical it doesn't even matter which one you get. The problem with the two is the idea of "New" in terms of "Screw the Old" They both took away backwards compatibility to there predecessors and Playstation took away a key feature to the power user, the ability to boot Linux.
Nintendo has completely decided to cash in on there franchises and release nothing but the same titles over and over again. It's a bit tiring to see Link get the same tools over and over again.
PC's superiority lies in graphical, capability, and interface functionality gives a more immerse adventure into gaming and helps gaming become not just a toy for the next generation of human beings, but allow Gaming to become an Art and a storytelling experience. Immersion is key to gaming.
